Willoughby Public School's AFL team have come second in the Paul Kelly Cup which is contested by public and private schools throughout the State. After an excellent effort to win the Sydney wide competition, Willoughby played in the State finals at the SCG on August 17.

The team contained many Wildcat boys - Tom Wright, Jarrod McCabe and Max Russell from the under 12s and Shaun & Dean Wajzer, Rory Madderom, Lucas Head, Nelson Matthews and Ethan Clarke from the under 11s.

A major reason for Willoughby's success was the excellent coaching from Rob Wajzer, the Wildcats Under 11 coach. Willoughby won all 3 of their pool matches strongly against Gerringong, Belmont Christian and Kempsey West.
They also won a tightly contested semi final against Aranda Primary School (ACT) to progress to the grand final.  Unfortunately they were unable to beat the very strong team Henschke School in Wagga in the final but it was an amazing effort overall for Willoughby to come runners up in NSW.
